![]() Harlow judo club hosted the Essex youth games championships on Sunday the 8th of July at the Sumners Leisure centre in Harlow. The event was arranged at short notice for the novice players and school players of the county with fantastic results. The aim was to give players the chance to attend a friendly championships with all players receiving a trophy. The event was hosted and organised by Mick Ellis and Harlow judo club with the backing of the newly formed Essex County Judo committee. The championships also gave Harlow judo club the chance to show of their new mats which were purchased with the aid of an awards for all grant. The Harlow judo club were also awarded their bronze clubmark earlier in the year an achievement they are very proud of. Mick was also pleased with the appearance of Coaching and schools development staff Andrew Moshanov and Karen French (respectively)representing the British judo association. It was great to have two local lads Peter and Thomas Cousins in attendance (both coached by Mick in their young day) to present the trophies. They did a fantastic job and were in great demand from the players to sign their attendance certificates. Peter is a good prospect for the next Olympics so watch this space. Mick had 37 pupils fighting 18 live in Harlow which along with the 6 from the Latton Bush based Ju-Hakuda judo club gave Harlow a total medal haul of 24medals from a total of 110 players. |
